Purpose

The Canadian Onsite Wastewater Institute purpose is:

To facilitate the research and development to quantify performance standards for the use in onsite wastewater treatment and dispersal industry.

To provide for the betterment of Canadian citizens in the use of onsite wastewater treatment and dispersal technologies and protecting public health, the environment and property value.

To assist in the fulfillment of the Canadian Agreement for Internal Trade (AIT) for the onsite wastewater industry.

To provide for recommendations and technical support to all levels, a national perspective and technical standards for all levels of governments in their development of policies, codes and regulations affecting the design, installation, maintenance and inspections of onsite wastewater treatment and dispersal technologies for the Canadian geo-climatic conditions.

To provide the Best management Practices for education and training of persons active in providing to the general public design, installation, maintenance and inspections of onsite wastewater treatment and dispersal technologies.

To support the provincial and territorial onsite wastewater associations to improve their capacity in delivering their services to their community and meeting national standards.
